How TDUB Invented a Completely New Discipline with App PR
When technical understanding, creativity, and swift action come together, something big can happen. TDUB proved this in collaboration with popular brands when new digital offerings began to conquer the market following the smartphone boom. As one of the first PR agencies, TDUB understood that apps are not just a new medium—they can be promoted according to their own rules. We called it App PR.
Service:
For our clients in areas such as navigation, photography, or children’s books and games, we developed an online PR strategy that ensured the apps were pushed not only in traditional media but also optimally promoted within the respective app stores. This led to dizzying download figures. The key mechanism behind this was that “real” coverage in reputable media is also recognized in search engine rankings and leads to long-lasting, effective linking.
The app PR, based on earned-media activities combined with consulting on app store optimization, formed the foundation on which TDUB has developed a strong technology focus that continues to this day. Only after apps became largely free and commonplace did we turn our attention to other disciplines.
Examples:
- Pixi books: The world’s most popular children’s book series comes to the phone! TDUB ensured that the first Pixi apps stormed the app store in no time and together occupied the top seven positions in the iPad book charts.
- Navigation: Test codes, explanatory videos, journalist workshops, and test drives— we supported navigation apps from Destinator, skobbler/Scout, Telenav, and TomTom in media outreach. We rode the wave and brought our clients into major national newspapers.
- Photography: Rescue your digital photos from the archive! With apps from clixxie and femory, people could finally create and order photo albums and other lifestyle photo gifts directly from their phones using snapshots of their loved ones. A trend topic not only for test portals but also for colorful media—both online and print.
