Ten years can be quite a long time. And a very long time can be beautiful.
No celebration for TDUB’s ten-year anniversary. But a few thoughts.
When Karsten had the idea ten years ago to start something new, I had no idea it would turn into such a long story. We joined forces and, together with Tanja, who came on board shortly afterwards, founded the TDUB agency. To be honest, back then it was still called Tsching, Derassa & Bum, but after those wild early months we pushed that a bit into the background. We’ve never completely let go of that creative, cheerful origin. And that’s a good thing, because it shows a little how we see ourselves and what we actually wanted to express with the “agency” project.
Ten years ago, when sending out a press release, we no longer spent hours standing by the fax machine as we had done together at achtung!. But we debated whether journalists would accept the press release as a PDF or would prefer it in plain text – after all, not everyone had such huge inboxes. Today we’re considering whether we should set up a dedicated channel on Discord for influencers. Well, that’s perhaps something our committed employees are more likely to do; you don’t always have to join in with everything yourself. We’ve remained a PR agency, but PR itself has changed completely. And so have we.
Ten years ago, together with one of our first clients, we set out to open up a completely new industry. Satnav devices were the big thing, and at CeBIT there were soon several halls for their providers. With skobbler, we then contributed a little to prices falling through the floor and to navigation working reliably and very cheaply not on stand-alone devices, but on the smartphone. A few years later there was no longer a navigation hall at CeBIT. And then there was no CeBIT at all. Sorry about that!
Ten years ago, our other first client was called Bowers & Wilkins. And they have remained loyal to us to this day. We are especially grateful for that, because something like that is very rare in an agency’s life. With Bowers & Wilkins we were able to further develop our core competence: turning high-end technology into a desirable lifestyle product. Over the years, we have been able to build up a network of journalists that probably no other agency of our size can boast. We have become a service provider not only to our clients, but also to the most important technology-related media in Germany. What we can often achieve here with the classic tools of public relations makes us a little proud. Thanks to all the clients who have trusted us for a shorter or longer part of this journey! And to all the media people with whom we work together so amicably and fairly.
Ten years ago we couldn’t imagine that one day we would no longer get together as a team every day, but that everyone would be sitting in their home office and we would only meet in a video conference. That takes away some of the ease and fun we otherwise always have together, and so we don’t really feel like celebrating. Looking back inevitably makes you a bit wistful, and it fits well to remember all the people who have accompanied TDUB with so much goodwill.
Thanks to Mirko, from whom we learned so much. Thanks to Clody, Wolle, Tom, Simone, Johanna, Fraggle, Katja, Birthe, Diok, Fritzi, Ché, Meike, who let us stay with them on Zirkusweg and build vans. Thanks to Phil, one Jens and the other, Robi, Henning and their friends, who accompanied us to HafenCity. Thanks to Philipp, Christoph and his team, Robert, Katrin, Sabine, Dan, Hans, Julia, Nico, Meike, Katrin and Maike and their team, Patrick and his team, Torsten, Tom and his team, Stephan and his team, Ben and his team, all of whom put up with us on the floor in HKS7 for so long. Thanks to Knut, Frank, Susanne, Olli, Jürgen, Andreas, who were always on hand with advice. Thanks to friends and partners from other agencies and companies, represented by Alaitz and Tine, Matthias, Simon, Markus, Andreas, Peter and Christine, Rene and Kristin, plus all the international contacts from the IPRN network.
And of course thanks to all the “Tschings” who gave TDUB a face, who are TDUB: Bahar, Ann-Kathrin, Frieda, Doreen, Nina, Hilke, Till, Lara, Mette, Larissa, Nico, Anton, Mareike, Kim, Ana, Luisa and the great interns who were there. We’re thinking of Gaby.
Unfiltered, unsorted – a few memories of a great time:
